Healthy breakfast with lots of nutrients.

A bowl of plain greek yogurt topped with fresh or frozen blueberries and pomegranate seeds (organinc is best) and raw pumpkin seeds (pepitas) is a nutrient packed breakfast! Below is a list of each food and why it is healthy for you.

PLAIN GREEK YOGURT contains little to no sugar. It is high in protein which helps build strong muscles and bones. It is a natural probiotic which is healthy bacteria that helps to build your immune system. Greek yogurt contains vitamin B12; the body requires B12 form red blood cells which are the blood cells that carry oxygen throughout the body. Greek yogurt also contains the essential mineral Iodine. The thydroid gland uses Iodine to make thyroid hormone. These hormones control metabolism, heart health and more. Greek yogurt also contais Zinc, an essential mineral that helps build the immune system.

RAW PUMPKIN SEEDS are great sources of Iron, Magnesium and Zinc. Iron is an essential mineral that the body needs for proper function of hemoglobin (a protein required to transport oxygen in blood). Pumpkin seeds are a good source of Magnesium. This mineral helps convert food to energy, helps with protein formation, helps with the nervous system regulation and so much more. The functions of Zinc are listed above. Pumpkin seeds are a great source of health fats.

BLUEBERRIES are a natural “super food”. Blueberries are a good source of vitamin C, an essential vitamin that boosts immune support and helps to absorb Iron. They are high in antioxidents which are molecules that fight free radicals in your body. Blueberries are a good source of fiber which aids in weight loss, helps to maintain blood sugar levels and is important for good digestion. Vitamin K is found in blueberries; it helps make proteins that are needed for blood clotting and building of bones.

POMEGRANTES also have a high nutrient value as well as being high in fiber. Pomegranates are known to be one of the healthiest fruits for nutritional value. They are a great source of Vitamin C and K which are listed above. They are high in Potassium a very important mineral that helps regulate fluid balance, muscle contractions and nerve signals. They are said to have impressive anti infammatory effects. They are however higher in sugar than blueberries so for those of you wanting to lose weight, it is best to half the amount compared to bluberries.

If weight loss is your goal then this is a great breakfast or snack choice for you! It has protein, complex carbs which takes longer to break down in simple sugars in the body so there is a steady stream and not a spike of sugar in the blood stream. It will also provide longer satiety which means it will fill you up longer.

Side note. Anywhere it says “essential” it means the body does not make it and we need to get it from food.
